Personal Auto Insurance

Personal auto insurance protects you against financial loss if you have an accident. Car insurance provides protection under four coverage parts:

• Liability coverage pays for your legal responsibility to others for bodily injury or property damage.

• Medical coverage pays for the cost of treating injuries, rehabilitation, and, in some cases, for lost wages and funeral expenses that may result from an auto accident.

• Uninsured motorist coverage can protect you, covered passengers, covered family members, and your insured automobile for damage and bodily injury resulting from a covered accident caused by an uninsured or under-insured driver.

• Physical damage coverage pays for specified collision losses.

Custom equipment coverage may also be added to your automobile insurance policy. Most states require you to buy some, if not all, of these. If you’re financing a car, your lender may also require you to carry certain types of car insurance coverage.
